Adult Programs: Aquatics
Fitness Swimming
The fitness swim class is geared to anyone from a novice swimmer to an expert swimmer who wants a cool and refreshing way to exercise. This class will allow you to develop cardiovascular, skeletal and neuromuscular conditioning as you swim. Your instructor will assess your current swimming skills, consider your fitness objectives and help you design a fitness swimming workout that meets your needs and skill level. The class will include the 12-minute Cooper Swim Test as an evaluation and an improvement tool. Each session will have a warm-up, stretching, core strengthening, aerobic conditioning and muscular development set. Techniques will include reading a pace clock, swimming etiquette, and calculating your target heart rate when swimming. The instructor will work with each person to improve swimming strokes, and turns as well as teach skills necessary for effective fitness swimming.

Group Swim Lessons
Adult group lessons are designed for swimmers of all skill levels. The program will be individualized, with each participant working on skills they desire to develop. If you are looking to learn to be comfortable in the water, learn proper breathing and stroke techniques, floating and other basic swimming skills, this is the class for you.

Private Lessons
Every individual is taught by their own personal swim instructor and can progress at his or her own pace. Lessons are scheduled based upon instructor and student availability. Lessons are available in 15-, 30- or 60-minute sessions. Times and dates for the lessons are determined between you and the instructor. Receive a complimentary 15-minute lesson if you buy a package of four hours of private lessons. Please call the Aquatics office at 616-784-8772 and leave your name, phone number, age of the participant to schedule a lesson with an instructor. The Aquatics Team Leader will then contact you to arrange the lessons.
Lifeguard Training
Are you interested in becoming a lifeguard? You must be 15 years of age or older and be able to attend all classes. Your training in the newly updated American Red Cross Lifeguarding will include: how to recognize and respond effectively to all emergencies in and around the water, emergency rescue techniques, CPR, first aid skills and AED. The fee includes all books and supplies. We update expired certifications. Minimum 6 registrations required 5 days before the class is scheduled to begin.
